FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mocha Moms of Corona Aims to Boost Childrens' Literacy Skills Innovative Literacy Program to Get Boys & Girls Hooked on Books
(CORONA, CA) October 6, 2008--Mocha Moms, Inc., a national support organization for stay-at-home mothers of color, has launched an innovative partnership to boost children's literacy skills, and they are turning to local beauty and barbershops to kick off their new effort.
On November 1, 2008, the Mocha Moms of Corona will unveil their first reading nook at Planet Hair (www.planethairinc.net) at 210 West Grand Avenue 92882, complete with books for boys and girls with free publications for parents that support the development of reading and other literacy skills at home. The new book nook is part of Boys/Girls Booked on Beauty/Barbershops (BG-BOB), a growing national initiative that takes advantage of naturally occurring opportunities in the community to foster a love of reading. BG-BOB reading nooks have debuted in more than 100 barbershops across the country, from California to Florida.
Mocha Moms, Inc. began this initiative as a BG-BOB partner with the National Institute for Literacy in 2006. Since then, more than 30 Mocha Moms chapters across the country have signed on to create reading nooks in local beauty and barbershops. Reading nooks are set up with literacy tips for parents and a variety of high interest multicultural children's books for children. The reading nook gives children an alternative to the pop culture magazines often sited at shops.
The Corona Chapter of Mocha Moms invites the community to join them for the nook launch on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Planet Hair in Corona. Goody bags & special gifts will be given to children and parents in attendance. Stylist and barbers will be available for introductions and appointments. And of course plenty of books will be available to the children.
