Frederick Chapter launches BBOB Reading Nook
June 21, 2008 - the Frederick Chapter joined our national initiative to encourage reading among boys living in urban communities.
The Frederick Chapter of Mocha Moms, Inc. launched their BBOB initiative on Saturday, June 21 at Beyond Beautiful Hair Salon. The owner, Alicia Peters, was eager to jump on board and partner with our organization. Prior to this initiative, children waiting to get their hair cuts often looked at adult magazines that were too mature in nature. The new BBOB reading nook offers children positive books and educational material to read while waiting in the sitting area of her shop.
The shop was buzzing with activity on Saturday morning when they arrived. The chapter provided donuts and juice boxes for the children. The children explored their new reading nook and quickly grabbed books to read. During the launch, Chapter President Tracie Cook and Mocha Rochelle Robinson read stories to the children. The parents were happy to see their kids participate and thanked us for our time.
The reading nook is a great addition to the shop. BBOB is a great way to help close the educational gap and continues to provide our children a positive experience while waiting for their turn.
