While Shalaun Newton has been a stay-at-home mom for the past five years, she has held many non-profit organizational leadership positions. She is the National Director of Corporate Sponsorships of Mocha Moms, Inc. serving nearly 3,000 members and over 100 chapters in 27 states, and the Historian for the Prince George’s County Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

Shalaun made a difficult decision to leave Corporate America to become a stay-at-home mom when they moved to Maryland due to an executive job opportunity for her husband Milt Newton.  Shalaun was a Senior Marketing Manager with American Express in New York City, where she gained invaluable experience in developing and executing multimillion dollar marketing strategies.  Her twelve years of marketing, finance and sales management experience in various industries, allows her to utilize her expertise and leadership to serve others in our community.

Shalaun believes in working hard for something you are very passionate about. As one of the 2006 Northern Prince George’s County Chapter Presidents, she lead her Executive Board in successful efforts: A community service effort that raised funds for Homeless Children of Prince George’s County school supplies; the 2nd Annual Home Business Extravaganza for members and non-members to showcase their home-based businesses; and provided new and exciting opportunities for our Mocha Moms by developing partnerships with Babies R Us and other companies. As the National Director of Corporate Sponsorships, she works with existing and prospective sponsors to develop mutually beneficial partnerships to help expand and enhance our organization, in addition to supporting our National Community Service Initiative of “Closing the Gap in Minority Health, Prosperity and Achievement”.

Shalaun was raised in the Midwest and lives in Bowie, Maryland with her husband of fourteen years and her two beautiful children Shaniya and Miles.  She has a B.S in Business Administration from the University of Kansas.
