Imperative President Eleanor Hinton Hoytt Speaks at Healthcare Equality 2009: Lighting up the Future Rally - June 2009, SEIU Blog

On June 24, the Imperative's president and CEO, Eleanor Hinton Hoytt, addressed health care reform advocates at the Healthcare Equality 2009 Rally in Washington, D.C. The SEIU Blog reports, "Hinton-Hoytt nearly brought the crowd to tears by relating the tragic story of Esmen Elizabeth Green, a 49-year-old home health care worker who died in the ER last year. After being ignored for 24 hours, she died, at which point, people stepped over her dead body. Hinton Hoytt used this story to support her point: "This is not about the health care we want; this is about the health care we need." 

Hundreds Rally for Health Care Reform - June 2009, New America Media

New America Media also covered the Health Equality Rally: "Hundreds of doctors, nurses and other social and health care workers gathered in Washington, D.C.'s Freedom Park Wednesday, asking Congress to end the racial and economic disparities in the United States' health care system.

"How can we be talking about the American Dream when some women have to choose between food for their children or going to the doctor?" Eleanor Hinton Hoytt, president and CEO of the Black Women's Health Imperative, asked the assembled crowd.

In an article discussing the impact of the murder of Dr. George Tiller, theroot.com asks why civil rights activists aren't up in arms. The author cites the Imperative as being, "in the foreground of the fight for reproductive justice."

Survey, Leadership Summit Examine Breast Cancer Disparities In Black Women - May 2009, Medical News Today

Medical News Today along with other media outlets covered the Imperative's recent breast cancer survey and leadership summit. "This is te beginning of a national movement for Black women," Eleanor Hinton Hoytt, president and CEO of the Black Women's Health Imperative, said. "Our vision is for Black women across the country to be engaged in breast health as community advocates, leaders, clinicians, researchers and survivors."
