Mocha Moms Inc. Teams with Wells Fargo to Empower Mothers

Powerhouse financial services company shares tips to build a better financial future

Upper Marlboro, MarylandApril 13 - Mocha Moms, Inc., the national, non-profit support organization for at-home mothers of color, has joined Wells Fargo in an exciting new partnership to give mothers the tools they need to improve their family’s financial health and prepare for retirement.

“We are honored to join Wells Fargo as it lends its wealth of expertise to mothers who are the heart and soul of their families,” says Dee Dee Jackson, Mocha Moms, Inc. national president. “We are all living in uncertain times. The financial knowledge that we provide our mothers today will help them to make smarter decisions and build stronger families for tomorrow.”

As part of the partnership, Wells Fargo will be the Presenting Sponsor of Mocha Moms’ 2010 Regional conferences. Mocha Moms, Inc. has six regions throughout the country, all of whom are hosting conferences throughout the year. Wells Fargo Financial Advisors will present “From Here to There: A Clear View of Retirement for Women,” a seminar specifically designed for women to help them navigate through retirement savings, investing and planning and the unique considerations women face. The workshop will speak to the investment styles, options and important questions for women to consider as they plan for their family’s financial future. According to Wells Fargo, while men and women have similar long-term financial goals, women live longer, earn less on average and are more likely to interrupt their careers to raise a family. Wells Fargo will also sponsor special appearances by investment expert and stockbroker Gail Perry-Mason, co-author of "Girl, Make Your Money Grow!” at the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Regional Conferences.

“This is an exciting event for us to be a part of not only to share Wells Fargo products and services with this important group but also to help them expand their investment confidence and help their families build financial security for the future,” said Michelle Thornhill, senior vice president and African American segment manager for Wells Fargo. . Mocha Moms, Inc. was founded in 1997 by four mothers of color in Maryland who saw the need for a growing segment of stay at home mothers of color to connect and support each other. Today, the fast growing national, non-profit organization has 100 chapters and more than 3,000 members in 29 states throughout the country, as well as partnerships with such organizations as the America’s Promise Alliance, the Black Women’s Health Imperative, the National Institute for Literacy, the National Marrow Donor Program and PBS Kids. The primary mission of Mocha Moms, Inc. is to support and encourage women of color who are making parenting a priority in this season in their lives. Its platform includes strengthening marriages and families, promoting self-care, strong educational foundations and volunteerism. All chapters are actively engaged in a wide range of community service, including mentoring students, hosting educational summits, financial forums and healthy moms symposiums, and setting up reading nooks in barbershops and beauty shops throughout the country as part of the groundbreaking national initiative Boys Booked on Barbershops.
