The Mocha Moms, Inc. Cleveland, Southeast Suburban Chapter joins national initiative to encourage reading among boys and girls in urban communities.
(South Euclid, OH) March 12, 2011 -- Mocha Moms, Inc., a national support organization for stay-at-home mothers of color, and The National Institute for Literacy, a federal agency, have launched an innovative partnership to support early literacy and help foster a love for books and reading.
The Mocha Moms Cleveland Southeast Suburban Chapter kicked-off Girls Booked on Beauty shops (G-BOB) on Saturday, March 12 at 11am at Kinky, Curly, Straight at 4160 Mayfield Rd. located in South Euclid. Kinky, Curly, Straight, owned by Monica Green, specializes in natural and healthy hair for adults and children. The launch at the salon introduced the “book nook” to the community and included food, entertainment and give-aways. The City of South Euclid Mayor Georgine Welo and News Channel 5 Anchorwoman Kimberly Gill were in attendance to read to the children along with local community leaders from the area public schools.
“Girls Booked on Beauty shops is a wonderful program to encourage youth reading in the Cleveland Areas,” says Georgine Welo, City of South Euclid Mayor. “I was grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of such a great organization for area moms.”
Says owner Monica Green, “I am so excited that my salon could be a part of such a great event that promotes child literacy. My younger clients will enjoy reading the books while they are in the salon.”

As Mocha Moms, our primary concern is to ensure the health and well being of our families. However, our concern is also greater than our families, as we recognize that when any child does not have an opportunity to fully develop his/her academic talents and intellectual pursuits, our entire community suffers. Platforms include strengthening marriages and families, promoting self-care, strong educational foundations and volunteerism.
