Phoenix East Valley Chapter Community Service Event - Wellness Seminar
The Mocha Moms, Inc. Phoenix East Valley Chapter hosts a summer wellness workshop.
June 26, 2011 -- In alignment with the Black Women’s Health Imperative, the Phoenix East Valley Mocha Mom Chapter hosted a summer wellness workshop for its members on Sunday, June 26, 2011.
The two part seminar began with a presentation from local nutrition company, One Bode. Dr. Tanya Hunt discussed how nutrition affects every part of life – energy levels, immune function, performance function, mental clarity and even healing from degenerative breakdown.
The presentation was followed by a rigorous workout led by athletic trainers from the Performance Institute for Training and Therapy (P.I.T.T). The performance standard workout kept our heart rates up with a ply-o- metrics warm up, active stretches, free weights and full body exercises that targeted multiple large muscle groups.
Attendees were treated to a sponsored lunch from El Polo Loco. They were given a 2-week lifestyle worksheet that outlined various dietary changes that could be implemented in their lives immediately. They were also given supplemental samples from One Bode and healthy Mexican recipes to try at home.
The workshop was a success and it was a great informative session to kick off healthy lifestyle changes for the summer!
