A YEAR OF ACTION: 2014 State of the Union!

During his 2014 State of the Union address, President Barack Obama promised "a year of action". Below is the official Mocha Moms, Inc. statement sent to the White House.

During his 2014 State of the Union address, President Barack Obama promised "a year of action". This comes after more than four years of inaction in Washington, D.C. on so many issues while so many American families live with uncertainty about our futures. Some people believe this inaction is because Republicans won't work with the President no matter what he does. Others argue that the President hasn't and won't show leadership and bring the two sides together. Whatever your politics- whatever your opinion- the results are the same: we are suffering through a stagnating political era where little to nothing is being accomplished. So Mocha Moms, Inc. applauds the President for raising some of the issues that affect us, as Moms raising families and managing households, directly.

Here is the official Mocha Moms, Inc. statement sent to the White House:

OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL

Mocha Moms, Inc. was very pleased to hear some of the ideas put forth by President Barack Obama during his 2014 State of the Union address.

As women of color dedicated to raising healthy and productive families of color, there perhaps is nothing more important to us than seeing that our children can enjoy a world where there is "opportunity for all". There are so many legs that make that chair stable: access to a good education Pre-K through college, a stable economy and relief for middle-class families, and health care. And for those mothers who have found themselves to be the primary breadwinners, it is so important that we, as a country, embrace and ensure equal pay for equal work and corporate policies that don't penalize parents- men or women- who need to take time off to care for a sick family member.

The President said, "Citizenship demands a sense of common purpose." Mothers, especially, understand this sentiment. Mocha Moms, Inc. exists specifically for it. Our common purpose is a better, secure, healthier life for us and our families. It's what we work for and support each other through year in and year out. We expect and want our political leaders to back us up on those goals.

During his speech, the President said, "America does not stand still and neither do I."
