Danae Aicher

National Director of Communications

Danae Jones-Aicher was a mass communications professional with more than 20 years of experience in news and public relations when she made the choice to leave her career to be what she calls a “professional Mom”.

Her news career began in 1990, and over the next decade she wrote for CNN Headline News in Atlanta, and reported and produced newscasts and hosted community affairs programs for television and radio. In 2001, she took over as Assistant Program Director for the Florida Public Radio Network, then flagging from virtually 80% staff turnover in the eight months prior and sagging relationships with 12 affiliates statewide who were on the verge of pulling out of the group. Within eighteen months, Danae rebuilt the WFSU newsroom and Florida Public Radio network. In addition, she organized cutting edge journalistic series on the environment, historical preservation, and political documentaries.

In 2003, Danae exhibited her trademark crossover ability by moving into statewide politics and serving as Communications Director, Spokesperson and Press Secretary for U.S. Senate Candidate, Alex Penelas.  In 2005, she was tapped to serve as Press Secretary and Official Spokesperson for Democratic candidate for governor, U.S. Congressman Jim Davis.

Two years later, she once again proved her flexibility and ability to successfully take on new challenges when she set her sights on politics in the Commonwealth of Virginia and agreed to serve as Communications Director for the Democratic Party of Virginia. During her year-long tenure with the DPVA, she transformed the nearly non-existent communications department into a reliable source of information for political reporters statewide, managed more than 400 state, national and international reporters for the Party’s record-breaking 2008 Jefferson-Jackson dinner, and organized embedded press coverage for the Virginia delegation for the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Currently Danae uses her writing/editing/PR skills serving as National Director of Communications for Mocha Moms, Inc., a national organization that supports women of color who choose to alter their professional lives to raise their families. In addition, she produces a monthly online radio program, and steps in with her political expertise and insight for select programs.
