White House Council on Women and Girls

From the Mocha Moms, Inc. National Board

Mocha Moms, Inc. is so pleased that President Barack Obama’s administration is taking seriously the plight of women and girls of color in this country and looking for strategies that help us improve our lives. This report shows us that while things are improving for women and girls of color (thanks, in part, to more accessible and affordable health care), there are still too many individual cases that stymie the growth and opportunities for girls of color. While teen pregnancy rates are down and high school and college graduation rates are up, there is still too wide a gap in educational and economic achievement and our girls are still being suspended at much higher rates.

By taking the extra step of creating a working group to look into and address the unique challenges of women and girls of color, the White House Council on Women and Girls has demonstrated a rare understanding of the great diversity of our country and a real commitment to showing that all of us matter.

Mocha Moms understand that by lifting up the least of us, we lift up all of us. This new report and subsequent action lets us know that this administration also understands that not one of us is free until we all are.

Sincerely,

The National Board
